Making The Most Of It


We are talking about lifting with minimal equipment today for those that have not figured it out already or just want to make the most of home workouts without buying equipment. Lots of us may already know this as we have been stuck with only our bodyweight, chair, etc. and some lucky folks might have had dumbbell, a kettlebell, or some bands lying around at home. These can be put to great use right now as we all learn to workout at home. Rows, presses, swings. Lunges, squats, deadlifts. All of these are on the table and by changing the mechanics of each lift, we can really do some good work. Here is a quick example:

The romanian deadlift is a great exercise for the posterior chain, and if you have bands or some weight at home they become a good option for you. But, if you only have one or two dumbbells and they really aren’t that heavy, you might not be getting much from the movement. Changing to a single leg RDL, so that all of the minimal weight you’ve got is put on your one leg, will make sure you are getting the most out of every lb of weight you have available.

It’s time to get creative. That might mean doing exercises you’ve done a million times in a new way, or it might mean finding exercises that you never do in the gym. Nordic hamstrings curls aren’t something I’ve spent a lot of time on in the gym, but we gotta hit those hammies and they will do the trick. So try new things, make the most out of what you’ve got, and try to have fun!
