Setting Your Fitness Goals

This is something that can apply to anyone no matter where they are on their fitness journey. A lot of people set their end goal, without the steps required to achieve that goal. Goals are harder to achieve than you realize. Always ask yourself (not to be mean to yourself), Why do I deserve this? What am I going to do to make this happen? What is my action plan?

Instead of going from I want to bench 405 and you are currently benching 225, set up some micro goals for yourself. You aren't getting rid of that main goal, you just have smaller goals in between. Put some steps in there, gain some positive momentum, set a timetable to accomplish this in. When we visualize success we are actually just going through each of these smaller steps.

So when we said goals are harder to achieve than you realize, we just want to think about how much effort its going to take in order to achieve that goal. Its usually a lot more than you think but the reward will feel better once you achieve your goal. It doesn't matter what your goal is, it just matters what you are going to do about it and the path you take to get there.

Again, set the goal. Set your micro goals. Gain positive momentum. We want that positive momentum because it gives you that affirmation that you are on the right path and that your goal is achievable. Most of our goals are emotional, which is fine. We just need to then be calculated about them. Calculated steps are going to be more reliable and thought out then just saying, I am doing this "thing". Put thought into it and positive action. Training in general is about building positive momentum!

With all that said, if you want a goal to actually come to fruition, set a realistic goal and make sure its something that absolutely need to happen and is an inevitability in your mind. If you aren't currently satisfied with your progress and physique, take a hard look at it and see what you can do differently to get to where you want to be.

What it all boils down to:

  • Set your main goal
  • Set mini goals around the main goal
  • Set a timetable to accomplish these in
  • Gain positive momentum by hitting these mini goal
