Intermittent Fasting

I'VE HAD ENOUGH OF YOUR BULLSHIT GIMMICKS! Fitness has always been an industry of trends. People choose their nutrition and workout fad and die by the sword! Intermittent fasting seems to be a strategy that's come from the under-belly of fitness to pop culture, having many celebrities and prominent voices preaching it as your fat-loss secret.

Yes intermittent fasting can be a great tool for many.

NO intermittent fasting does not assist in fat loss alone.

The basics-The idea is to have a smaller window in which we eat each day. Often choosing a “fasting” time of around 16 hours and an eating “window” for 8 hours. Now this is a decent strategy to control overall calorie intake and can be useful depending on the individual to maintain a calorie deficit. A calorie deficit as we should know by now is the leading factor in weight loss -- meaning eating less calories daily then we need to maintain our current body weight. The next biggest factor is our macronutrient ratios- how many carbs, fats and protein we eat a day plays a large role in performance, satiation and overall body composition. If having a strict schedule of eating allows you to be more constant then this may be a great approach for you.

On the other hand many people find that a more spread out intake leaves them more satiated ie; eating 4-6 meals every few hours. Some of this will be trial and error to see which allows you to adhere to your nutrition long term -- without adherence progress will be very difficult to obtain. Long story short, adherence will ultimately rule all. There are many strategies and tips to help us stick to you plan but no miracle fad does this “fatloss” thing for us.
